2019 Adega Guimaro 'Tinto Joven' Mencia
This is an example of Mencia, a unique variety that we think will please the Pinot drinkers just as much as the Syrah drinkers. Guimaro aka 'Rebel' in the local Galician dialect was founded in 1991 in the village of Sober (ironic) in Ribeira Sacra's prime sub-zone of Amandi . Today the winery is run by Pedro Rodriguez who took the helm in the early 2000's. Pedro has taken the label el traditional, using organics in the vineyard and wild yeast in the cellar as well as working with nothing except minimal sulfur. This tinto Joven comes from 40 year old vines, which are considered some of the best in the appellation. It’s a fresh, lighter style of the grape, with the typical blackberry, violet and spice I’ve come to love. For the chefs; your roast lamb match sorted, for the entertainers; a chunk of aged Manchego wouldn’t go amiss.
