I Clivi is a producer located in Friuli, Northern Italy and is run by father and son Ferdinando and Mario Zanusso, the vineyards produce devastatingly low yields, from 60-80 year old vines grown on steep terrain. The vines are farmed organically and are incredibly labour intensive, in the winery the wines make themselves, (wild fermentation, natural filtration and stability, a touch of SO2 before bottling) I Clivi are known for their extra soft pressings and concentration they achieve in their wines.
This is the first wine we’ve tried made from Verduzzo, and were immediately captivated by its texture and precision. The single variety has the potential to be made into a wide range of wine styles, from dry to very sweet dessert. This is a richly textured example of the distinctive grape, Verduzzo is an impressive and full-flavoured variety, which in the hills of Friuli can make wines of real power and complexity. With everything from tropicals to green herbs, this is a truly ‘captivating’ natural wine from a top flight producer. We think this has plenty of life in it, drink now if you like your whites fresh, hold up to 3 years if you can wait.. Only 5,000 bottles of this wine are made each year, enjoy it while you can!
